This isn’t kid stuff.

R.L. Stine–the acclaimed author of such standout YA horror titles as Goosebumps and Fear Street–is putting on his big boy pants and tackling adult horror with a new miniseries for BOOM! Studios. Check out the covers and interior artwork–courtesy of screenrant.com–for Stuff of Nightmares.

The four-issue comic book series–available in comic book shops and on digital platforms in September–reportedly will be a fresh take on the classic story of a mad scientist determined to create life in new and horrible ways. A.L. Kaplan (Maw) has illustrated the series, with Roman Titov (Eat the Rich) providing the colors.

The main cover for the first issue was rendered by Francesco Francavilla, while variant covers were drawn by Miguel Mercado, Adam Gorham, Jenny Frison, Kyle Holtz and Bjorn Barends.

In discussing Stuff of Nightmares, Stine said, “At last I’m free to let my most horrific fantasies out. It’s my first horror comic book written for grownups–ghastly, gory and, I hope, good stomach-churning fun.”

Kaplan–who said he is a lifelong fan of horror and of Stine–called this art assignment “an exciting experience…it’s a dark and twisted series about the monsters that fuel our nightmares.”
