Zazie Beetz Close To Reprising Her Role In ‘Joker’ Sequel

The Joker is rounding up his old friends.

Zazie Beetz (Bullet Train, Deadpool 2) reportedly is in talks to reprise her role as Sophie Dumond in Joker: Folie a Deux, the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster, according to Deadline.

Beetz would join stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, who recently confirmed their parts in the follow-up film, which is rumored to be a musical. Phoenix is returning as Arthur Fleck (aka the Joker) and Gaga will play Harley Quinn, a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum who has designs on Fleck. Beetz reportedly would again play Sophie, a struggling single mother and Fleck’s neighbor.

The film–expected to start shooting in December for a theatrical release on Oct. 4, 2024–is again directed by Todd Phillips from a screenplay he wrote with Scott Silver.

The original Joker–starring Phoenix, Beetz, Robert De Niro and Frances Conroy–follows failed clown and aspiring stand-up comedian Fleck, whose descent into insanity leads him to the persona of the Joker. The film–which earned Phoenix a Best Actor Oscar–became the first R-rated film to earn more than $1 billion at the box office.
