Looks like the zombies are moving on from Las Vegas.
Zack Snyder’s hit Netflix film Army of the Dead is getting a sequel (no surprise there) and the acclaimed filmmaker this week revealed the title–Planet of the Dead, as reported by movieweb.com. Onward and upward, Zack.
Snyder even dropped a couple of hints about what lies ahead for his undead hordes, teasing the possible (probable?) return of the safecracker Ludwig Dieter (Matthias Schweighofer) in Planet. “The real adventure,” Snyder said, “would be to see what happened to him when that safe door closed. Did he get killed by Zeus? We don’t see him die on camera.”
Snyder stopped short from revealing too much of the next film–which he is writing with Shay Hatten. “I won’t tell you what happens in Planet of the Dead,” he added, “but let’s just say that there’s a chance Dieter survives. And there’s a chance that brush with death would cause him to want to find a jailed Gwendoline.”
As for a “planetary” explosion in the sequel, fans will recall that Army of the Dead ends when Omari Hardwick’s Vanderohe character escapes from a ravaged Vegas, only to discover he had been bitten by the zombies and…well, you know what that means.
Army of the Dead–directed by Snyder from a screenplay he wrote with Hatten and Joby Harold–follows a group of mercenaries who plan a Las Vegas heist in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.
