Zac Efron Boards ‘Firestarter’ Reboot

by Rob Caprilozzi

Big news today from Universal, Blumhouse and Weed Road Productions as they have announced that Zac Efron (Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, The Greatest Showman) has signed on to star in Firestarter.

The synopsis, which sounds similar to the 1984 film, is said to follow a young girl who develops pyrokinetic abilities and is later abducted by a secret government agency that wants to harness her powerful gift as a weapon.

The 1984 film was directed by Mark L. Lester and starred Drew Barrymore, David Keith, Freddie Jones, Heather Locklear, Martin Sheen, George C. Scott, Art Carney and Louise Fletcher.

We announced back in April that a new director, Keith Thomas (The Vigil) took over the reins and will direct the film that is being adapted by writer Scott Teems (Halloween Kills, Rectify), who will also executive produce.

Keep it locked to Horror News Network for the latest on Firestarter.
