The dark web is no joke.

Red Rose–a new eight-episode horror series slated for Netflix (and the BBC)–is being filmed now in Bolton, England, and the ensemble cast was revealed this week by Variety.

The series–created and written by Michael and Paul Clarkson (The Haunting of Bly Manor)–explores “the relationship between teenagers and their online lives,” according to the logline.

Set over one summer following high school, the teens’ lives are “infiltrated by the Red Rose app–which appears on their smartphones, threatening them if they don’t meet its demands.” The app goes on to “expose the group to a seemingly supernatural entity and the seductive power of the dark web.”

The cast includes Amelia Clarkson (Poldark), Isis Hainsworth (Metal Lords), Ali Khan (Halo), Ellis Howard (Home), Ashna Rabheru (Sex Education), Adam Nagaitis (The Terror), Natalie Gavin (Gentleman Jack), Samuel Anderson (Doctor Who), Harry Redding and Natalie Blair.

Red Rose is directed by Ramon Salazar (Elite), Henry Blake (County Lines) and Lisa Siwe (Temple), and is produced by Camilla Bray.

Executive producer Nawfal Faizullah said he is “delighted that Michael and Paul’s fantastic scripts have attracted such a brilliant cast of rising stars,” adding that audiences “will love this gang of misfits as they fight to survive Red Rose.”
