Kangaroos, shrimp on the barbie and now…zombies.
Late last year, Horror News Network reported that Wyrmwood: Apocalypse–the Australian zombie sequel to 2014’s Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead–was almost ready to hit our shores, and this week it was learned that the horror flick will come to DVD and Blu-ray May 17, according to a report on JoBlo.com.
The sequel–from XYZ Films–is directed by Kiah Roache-Turner from a screenplay he wrote with his brother Tristan. The movie, the director said, is “bigger, bolder and pumping with zombies, car chases, explosions and a giant cyborg.” He added the sequel is what he wanted to make eight years ago, “but we didn’t have the money.”
The film follows a soldier named Rhys, who is stuck in a “zombie-infested Australian wasteland,” according to the logline. Rhys “has dedicated himself to tracking down and capturing survivors for the Surgeon General in hopes of finding a cure.”
Along the way, Rhys teams up with “a group of super-powered survivors to save a young woman from death by military experimentation.”
The film stars Luke McKenzie, Shantae Barnes-Cowan, Tasia Zalar, Jake Ryan, Nicholas Boshier, Jay Gallagher and Bianca Bradley.
Should the sequel go over well with audiences, a third film maybe in the offing. “I’m already writing it in my head,” Roache-Turner said. “We’d be crazy not to repeat this as soon as possible.”
