Everybody loves a good origin story.
The Godzilla vs. Kong sequel started shooting on Australian beaches late last week, and now it’s been reported that the much-anticipated movie has a working title. And it’s not the title that was floated among the rumor mills some time ago.
It was believed that Son of Kong was the working title (leading to all sorts of speculation), but now, the new working title of Origins (the source of a whole new rash of guesswork) can be seen in a Twitter post on this page.

The next MonsterVerse installment from Legendary Pictures–slated for a March 15, 2024 release–is directed by the returning Adam Wingard and is produced by Alex Garcia, Eric McLeod, Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni.
The only (human) bit of casting so far is Dan Stevens in an undisclosed role. Stevens–who starred in 2017’s live-action Beauty and the Beast–worked with Wingard on 2014’s horror flick The Guest.
No plot details have been unveiled, but the best guess–given the new working title–would have the storyline delve somewhat into the early days of either (or both) of the titans. But, only time will tell.
The last time these behemoths clashed–during 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong–the box office shook. The film became the second movie of the pandemic era to break the $100-million barrier domestically, on its way to a global haul of $468 million.
