‘Willy’s Wonderland’ Getting Prequel Comic This October

by Thomas Tuna

Nicolas Cage…a bizarre amusement park…a bunch of killer animatronics. What’s not to like?

Fans of Willy’s Wonderland–which debuted on small and big screens earlier this year–will now get a backstory to all its weirdness as American Mythology Productions will publish a prequel comic book based on the film, according to JoBlo.com. Check out the cover of the first issue on this page.

The premiere comic–available Oct. 27 for $4.99–is written by S.A. Check (Volcanosaurus) and James Kuhoric (Freddy vsJason vsAsh) and illustrated by Puis Calzada (Hatchet).

No details on the comic’s storyline were given, but flashback scenes in the movie showed that Willy’s Wonderland was once owned by a serial killer with partners who transferred their souls into the amusement park’s animatronic characters through a satanaic ritual. Could be the inspiration for a prequel tale.

The movie–directed by Kevin Lewis from a screenplay by G.O. Parsons–follows a quiet drifter (Cage) who is tricked into a janitorial job at the now-condemned Willy’s Wonderland. What ensues, according to the official synopsis, is “an all-out fight for survival against wave after wave of demonic animatronics.”
