The simian kingdom has grown by one.
Veteran actor William H. Macy (Shameless, Jurassic Park III) is the latest to join the growing cast of 20th Century’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes–the latest entry in the classic horror/fantasy film franchise, according to a report on Deadline. Macy’s role in the film was not revealed.
This next Apes feature–shooting in Australia for a May 24, 2024 theatrical release–will also star Owen Teague (as the lead primate), Eka Darville, Freya Allan, Peter Macon, Kevin Durand, Travis Jeffery, Neil Sandilands, Sara Wiseman, Ras-Samuel Welda’abzgl and Lydia Peckham.
The film–directed by Wes Ball from a screenplay by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver and Patrick Aison–will be set “many years” after the conclusion of 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes. Ball has said the movie will not be a reboot, but details on the storyline have not yet been revealed.
The Apes franchise–which began with the Charlton Heston-led 1968 Planet of the Apes–has been a box office sensation so far, raking in $1.7 billion worldwide.
