Willem Dafoe Set To Join Cast Of ‘Nosferatu’ Remake

by Thomas Tuna

Willem Dafoe is stepping out of the shadow of the vampire.

The veteran genre actor–who earned an Oscar nomination for Shadow of the Vampire back in 2000–is ready to join the growing cast of the remake of the 1922 silent classic Nosferatu, according to a report on Deadline.

Dafoe–whose role in the reboot is not known at this time–will join the previously announced Bill Skarsgard (in the title role), Nicholas Hoult and Lily-Rose Depp in the cast. No production schedule or release window has yet been announced.

The Focus Features reboot–written and directed by Robert Eggers–is described as a “gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman (Depp) in 19th-century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire (Skarsgard) who stalks her–bringing untold horror with him.”

The original Nosferatu–an unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula–was directed by F.W. Murnau from a screenplay by Henrik Galeen. In the film, Count Orlok (Max Schreck) is a vampire “who preys on the wife of his real estate agent and brings a plague to their town,” according to the synopsis.
