The weird just got weirder.
Acclaimed veteran actor Willem Dafoe this week signed on for Beetlejuice 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 1988 horror-comedy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Dafoe–who will play an afterlife law enforcement officer–joins Michael Keaton (reprising his title role), Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, Catherine O-Hara, Justin Theroux and Monica Bellucci.
The sequel–filming in London next month for a Sept. 6, 2024 theatrical release–is directed by Tim Burton from a screenplay by Mike Vukadinovich.
The original Beetlejuice–helmed by Burton from a screenplay by Michael McDowell, Larry Wilson and Warren Skaaren–follows Adam and Barbara Maitland, a married couple who pass away and then haunt their Connecticut home.
But, when Charles and Delia Deetz, along with daughter Lydia, move into the house, the Maitlands hire a “freelance bio-exorcist” named Beetlejuice to scare away the newcomers.
