In typical off-the-wall fashion, the FX hit horror/comedy What We Do in the Shadows has been renewed for Season 4–before the third season has even started.
FX, bowing to popular demand, this week said the show will return for a fourth season in 2022–three weeks before its Season 3 debut on Sept. 2, according to Deadline. And, to sweeten the pot even more, a full trailer for Season 3 was dropped. Check it out on this page.
Nick Grad, FX president of original programming, explained the forward-thinking move this way. “Fans can’t seem to get enough of What We Do in the Shadows,” he said, “and FX is ready to feed that appetite by setting up the series for a fourth season. Our thanks to the creative team, cast and crew who keep making a great show better each season.”
The 10-episode Season 3 will kick off Sept. 2 with two episodes–The Prisoner and The Cloak of Duplication–debuting back-to-back. The upcoming season picks up after the Season 2 finale, when Guillermo revealed his vampire-slaying abilities in order to save his housemates from the Nouveau Theatre des Vampires.
The show–based on the 2014 film by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi–follows vampire roommates Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Nadja (Nastasia Demetriou), Laszlo (Matt Berry) and Colin (Mark Proksch) “as they navigate the modern world of Staten Island” with the help of their human familiar Guillermo (Harvey Guillen).
What We Do in the Shadows–led by showrunners Paul Simms and Stefani Robinson–has already picked up 10 Emmy Award nominations–including one for Outstanding Comedy Series–and a Critics’ Choice nomination for Best Comedy Series.
