Werewolf-Themed Halloween Disney+ Special Adds To Cast

by Thomas Tuna

Disney is gearing up for a howling good Halloween.

A spooky special slated for Disney+ sometime around this Halloween is reportedly going to the dogs (the wolves, actually). The popular notion is that the special will likely be some sort of adaptation of the Marvel Comics character Werewolf by Night, with the previously announced Gael Garcia Bernal (M. Night Shyamalan’s Old) in the lead role.

This week, as reported by Deadline, Laura Donnelly (The Nevers) has joined the cast of the untitled and shrouded-in-mystery special. It has been speculated that if Bernal is indeed playing the Jack Russell Werewolf by Night character, Donnelly may have been cast as Russell’s niece, Nina Price, who becomes Vampire by Night (nice that they keep it in the family).

All of this is educated conjecture for the moment, but it makes some sort of sense, given that the Moon Knight character first appeared in a Werewolf by Night comic, and that anti-hero will debut in a Disney+ series later this year.

More information is bound to slide through the pipeline soon, since the special is expected to start filming in the coming months.

The original Marvel Werewolf by Night (Jack Russell) character–created by writers Roy Thomas and Gerry Conway and artist Mike Ploog–first appeared in Marvel Spotlight No2 in 1972, before earning his own series that ran for 43 issues until 1977.
