It will be a summer of scares for 2021 both in theaters and on television as CBR has reported Wellington Paranormal, the spin-off of Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s series What We Do in the Shadows, will premiere on Sunday, July 11 at 9 PM, EST.
Coming in a wave of return-to-air date announcements this week, the first two episodes will premiere back-to-back. Wellington Paranormal actually finished its third season on New Zealand television but The CW’s airings will be the show’s first appearance in the United States.
The series’ episodes will debut on The CW then be available to stream on HBO Max the day after they air.
What We Do in the Shadows as a franchise began as a 2014 mockumentary style horror/comedy film written and directed by Clement and Waititi. Although the film had modest box office return, it received very positive reviews and gave life to the both the TV series of the same title as well as Wellington Paranormal.
The spin-off follows the adventures of Officers O’Leary (Karen O’Leary) and Minogue (Mike Minogue), hard-working members of the Wellington constabulary’s paranormal unit who, under the supervision of Sergeant Maaka (Maaka Pohatu), investigate supernatural occurrences that arise in the capital of New Zealand on a surprisingly regular basis.
