The first Derry residents have shown up.
Welcome to Derry–the HBO Max prequel series to the two It feature films based on the Stephen King horror classic–this week announced its first four cast members, according to a report on Deadline.
The series–being developed by Andy and Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs–will star Taylour Paige (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), Jovan Adepo (Watchmen), Chris Chalk (Perry Mason) and James Remar (Oppenheimer). Character details have not yet been announced.
The project seemingly has King’s stamp of approval. “I’m excited that the story of Derry–Maine’s most haunted city–is continuing,” he said. “And I’m glad Andy Muschietti will oversee the frightening festivities–along with his sister Barbara.”
Welcome to Derry–which reportedly could take place over the course of centuries–will be set primarily in the 1960s, and will explore the backstory of Pennywise the Clown and the curse over Derry–the community made famous by King’s 1986 novel and the 2017 and 2019 films.
The original It feature–directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay by Chase Palmer, Cary Fukunaga and Gary Dauberman–tells the terrifying story of The Losers’ Club, a group of seven outcast children who are terrorized by Pennywise.
