Pennywise will have to be patient.
Welcome to Derry–a prequel series to the classic It film franchise based on the Stephen King novel–was expected to debut on Max next Halloween, but fans will have to wait a bit longer to fill in the horror blanks, according to a report on Deadline.
HBO chief executive Casey Bloys this week said the TV series–developed by Andy and Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs–“will likely hit Max sometime in 2025.” So, stay tuned for an exact date.
Welcome to Derry–starring Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Madeline Stowe and Stephen Rider–will be set primarily in the 1960s, and will take a close look at the backstory of Pennywise the Clown and the curse hanging over Derry–the Maine town made famous by King’s 1986 novel.
The original It film–directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay by Chase Palmer, Cary Fukunaga and Gary Dauberman–follows the members of the Losers’ Club, a group of seven outcast children who battle Pennywise.
