The swamp really gets a hold on you.
The DC Comics horror mainstay Swamp Thing lost a popular TV series a few years ago, but the man-monster is making a big-screen comeback, thanks to DC head honchos James Gunn and Peter Safran.
In fact, James Mangold–the filmmaker behind Logan and the latest Indiana Jones adventure–reportedly is in talks to direct the new Swamp Thing feature. But, when casting calls start, one star of the dearly departed TV show doesn’t think she’ll be involved.
Virginia Madsen–in a recent interview with comicbook.com–said she “would doubt it,” when asked if she would be part of the film’s cast. “I think that kind of director is going to make it his own.”
If anything, Madsen added, “I wish they would bring Derek (Mears) into the movie because he had so much heart.” As for the film itself, the actor said, “Nobody can kill Swamp Thing. That’s why they’re making it into a movie with James Gunn. It’s going to be awesome.”
The planned film–part of DC’s Chapter One, Gods and Monsters initiative–will explore “the dark origins of Swamp Thing,” and include other DC characters. Gunn described the project as “a much more horrific film–but we’ll still have Swamp Thing interact with other characters.”
The DC Comics Swamp Thing character–created by the acclaimed writer-artist ream of Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson–first appeared in House of Secrets No. 92 way back in 1971, before earning his own title.
