Something old, something new for the Saw franchise.
The 10th entry in the classic Saw film series is getting its cast in order as it rolls into production in Mexico City, according to a report on Deadline.
As previously noted, Tobin Bell is on board to reprise his infamous role as Jigsaw Killer John Kramer, and he reportedly will be joined by another familiar face–Shawnee Smith, who will presumably reprise her Amanda Young role. It’s not yet known how Young–who seemingly met her end in Saw III–will appear in this new film.
In addition, Synnove Macody Lund (Ragnarok), Steven Brand (The Sandman) and Michael Beach (Dahmer) reportedly have signed on for the ride. No details have been provided on the roles these three will play.
The Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures project is being directed by Kevin Greuter, who helmed Saw VI and Saw: The Final Chapter, from a screenplay by Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger. The film is expected to hit theaters Oct. 27, 2023.
The original 2004 Saw–directed by James Wan from a screenplay by Leigh Whannell–stars Bell, Smith, Cary Elwes, Danny Glover and Monica Potter. The film was a big hit with horror fans (despite lukewarm reviews from critics), raking in more than $100 million worldwide on a budget of just $1 million.
