Unsettling Trailer Drops For Horror Feature ‘Smother’

by Thomas Tuna

Fear runs in the family.

Smother–an Austrian horror pic from Glitter and Doom Film Productions–is set for a theatrical release early next year (no exact date yet announced), and the first trailer is now available that affords a good look at the terrors on tap. Check out the video–courtesy of Variety–on this page.

The film–from writer/director Achmed Abdel-Salam–stars Cornelia Ivancan, Lola Herbst, Lukas Turtur, Heinz Trixner and Inge Maux.

Smother follows young mother Michi as she moves into an inherited summer house with her daughter Hanna following the sudden death of her estranged father, according to the synopsis.

Michi–a former alcoholic–is trying to regain the motherly trust she lost but, during the first night in the new house, “long-repressed childhood memories of her mother’s suicide haunt her. Trying to numb herself with alcohol only drives her daughter further away and accelerates Michi’s paranoid state.”

The crisis reaches the point when “her demons also start to threaten her daughter, and Michi must finally confront them to save her.”
