Universal’s New ‘Wolfman’ Feature Names New Director

by Thomas Tuna

Now it looks like the latest Wolfman is ready to howl.

Universal Pictures this week said Derek Cianfrance will take over the director’s chair from Leigh Whannell on the remake of the Ryan Gosling-led movie, according to a report on Deadline. Whannell, who was announced as the film’s director last summer, reportedly had to step away due to scheduling conflicts.

Cianfrance–who is also writing the screenplay–teamed with Wolfman star Gosling on Place Beyond the Pines and Blue Valentine. Gosling, Jason Blum and Ken Kao are producing Wolfman.

Little is know at this point about the storyline of this remake of the monster classic, but it is believed to be a modern take on the well-known tale and not a period piece.

Cianfrance seemed very excited about this project. “Horror movies were my first love,” he said, “my entry into what cinema was capable of narratively, psychologically and aesthetically. Coupled with the opportunity to collaborate with Ryan again, this is truly a dream come true.”
