Universal Already Discussing Possible ‘M3GAN’ Sequel

She’s more than just a toy.

M3GAN–a new horror-thriller from Universal Pictures–won’t land in theaters until Jan. 6, 2023, but thoughts have already turned towards a sequel, according to a report in The New York Times.

The film’s trailer–released last month–reportedly went viral, and TikTok posts tagged #M3GAN have already been viewed 300 million times. Numbers like that make a studio sit up and take notice.

The horror pic–based on a story by horror luminary James Wan–is directed by Gerard Johnstone (Housebound) from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (Malignant).

The feature follows Gemma (Allison Williams), “a brilliant roboticist at a toy company who uses artificial intelligence to develop M3GAN–a lifelike doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally,” according to the logline.

After gaining custody of her orphaned niece, Gemma enlists the help of the M3GAN prototype–a decision that has “unimaginable consequences.”

The film also stars Ronny Chieng, Brian Jordan Alvarez, Jen Van Epps, Lori Dungey and Stephanie Gameau-Moriten.
