Tyga and C.J. Wallace Join the Cast of MTV’s ‘Scream’ Season 3 Reboot

by John Evans

MTV surprised fans of it’s Scream television series when it announced in late April that Season Three would usher in a complete reboot of the franchise, with an all-new cast and creative direction. Queen Latifah was announced as an executive producer, and new characters for the franchise were revealed in early May… confirming the fact that none of the characters from the previous season will return. While news on the series has gone cold since then, The Hollywood Reporter has just confirmed that rappers/actors Tyga and C.J. Wallace have joined the series in leading roles.

Tyga, who began his rap career in 2007, has had several acting credits since 2009. Scream will be his first role as a “series regular” in a television program. He will be playing a character named, Jamal. According to a list of character bios released in May, here’s what we know about Jamal:

“And then there’s Dion’s (the main character) step-brother Jamal. Despite hanging out with a rough crowd, he’s got a big heart and an undying loyalty to Dion.”

C.J. Wallace, the son of The Notorious B.I.G. and Faith Evans, began his acting career with a role in 2009’s Notorious. He is in a rap group called CJ and Jahad, which will be releasing their first album this year. Wallace will play the role of Amir in MTV’s rebooted Scream series. THR have supplied the following character bio for Amir:

“The character is a good kid whose strict parents expect him to keep clean during high school, stay away from girls and ultimately find his place within the family business. Amir is a socially awkward savant who dreams of making music one day, an ambition he must stifle and keep to himself. But when events make him the unexpected target of a killer, Amir finds himself in over his head and his world view challenged. Facing death makes Amir reconsider what he wants for his life and the lengths he’s willing to go to find his identity and chase his dreams — should he survive.”

We should learn more and more casting details as we get closer to the release of the show. MTV’s six-episode Scream Season Three reboot is scheduled to air in March of 2018 in the form of a three-night event. Stay tuned to Horror News Network for more details on this project as they break!
