This horror franchise takes a trip back in time.
Thread: An Insidious Tale–an offshoot project of the popular horror franchise–this week signed its two leads, according to a report on Deadline. No production timetable or release window has yet been announced.
The new film–from Screen Gems, Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster–will star Mandy Moore (47 Meters Down) and Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals). Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight) will direct from his own screenplay.
Thread will officially be the sixth entry in the Insidious series, but it won’t be a direct continuation of the current franchise. In the movie, a husband and wife use a spell to travel back in time in order to prevent the death of their young daughter. But the consequences “prove to be severe,” according to the logline.
The first four films in the franchise–that began back in 2010–have earned more than $540 million worldwide, and the fifth installment–Insidious: The Red Door–hits theaters July 7.
