“God played a trick on you.”
The Exorcist: Believer–the first of three planned sequels to the 1973 horror classic–will hit the big screen Oct. 13, and now fans can gasp at the trailer and synopsis. Check out the video on this page.
The Blumhouse/Universal film–directed by David Gordon Green from a screenplay he wrote with Scott Teems, Danny McBride and Peter Sattler–combines actors from the original film with a slate of newcomers.
The feature follows Victor Fielding (Leslie Odom, Jr.), who has been raising his daughter Angela (Lidya Jewett) alone since the death of his pregnant wife 12 years ago.
But, when Angela and her friend Katherine (Olivia Marcum) disappear in the woods–only to return three day later with no memory of what happened–it unleashes “a chain of events that forces Victor to confront the nadir of evil, and to seek out the one person who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn, reprising her iconic role).”
The cast is rounded out by Linda Blair (reprising her Regan MacNeil role), Ann Dowd, Raphael Sbarge, Jennifer Nettles and Okwui Okpokwasili.
In related news, it was announced that the next film in this trilogy of follow-up movies–The Exorcist: Deceiver–is slated for an April 18, 2025 theatrical release.
