Toxie comes home in style.
Troma Entertainment is marking the 50th anniversary of The Toxic Avenger franchise with a 4K eight-disc Tox Box collection that’s now available for pre-order from Amazon for $100. The collection will release Aug. 29.
Troma has rounded up the four films in the series, and given them new 4K scans and restorations from the original camera negatives. Included in the set are a special introduction from Troma president Lloyd Kaufman and a set of collectible Toxic Avenger postcards.
The original 1984 The Toxic Avenger–directed by Kaufman and Michael Herz from a screenplay by Kaufman and Joe Ritter–stars Mitch Cohen, Andree Maranda and Jennifer Babtist. In the film, Tromaville gets a new hero when meek mop boy Melvin falls into a vat of toxic waste…and The Toxic Avenger is born.
The movie was generally ignored during its first release, but, after successful 1985 midnight screenings in Greenwich Village, it blossomed into a cult classic. The original spawned three sequels, a stage musical, a video game and a children’s TV cartoon.
