Luis Guzman has huge shoes to fill–not to mention a cool chalk-striped double-breasted suit.

The upcoming eight-episode Netflix Wednesday series–based on the classic ’60s TV show The Addams Family–this week added the veteran actor Guzman in the role of kooky patriarch Gomez, as reported by Variety. The lead role of Wednesday–Gomez’ darling daughter–will be played by Jenna Ortega (Scream), as previously announced.

Acclaimed filmmaker Tim Burton will make his small-screen directorial debut with Wednesday, with series creators Al Gough and Miles Millar serving as showrunners and executive producers.

Guzman has made his mark with roles in such feature films as TrafficCarlito’s Way and The Taking of Pelham 123. His television credits include Code BlackOz and Shameless.

Wednesday, according to the synopsis, will be “a supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy.” During the series, Wednesday will try to “master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago.”

The Addams Family–the macabre sitcom that ran for 64 episodes from 1964-1966–was based on the iconic New Yorker cartoons by Charles Addams. In this show, Wednesday was played by Lisa Loring, with John Astin portraying Gomez and Carolyn Jones playing his wife Morticia.

No debut date for Wednesday has yet been announced (but it is speculated to air in late 2022), so keep reading Horror News Network for further updates on this Netflix series.
