Fans obviously couldn’t wait to see Geralt of Rivia slay a few more monsters.
The Season 2 premiere of the Netflix hit horror/fantasy series The Witcher–which aired last Friday, Dec. 17–came in No. 1 on the streamer’s Top 10 ratings list, according to a report on Deadline.
The series–starring Henry Cavill as the titular Witcher Geralt–recorded an impressive 142 million hours streamed over its first three days. And Season 2 must have fueled the flames of fans wanting to learn more about the first season–since that came in second with 49 million hours viewed.
The Witcher–already renewed for a third season–continues the riveting adventures of Geralt and his companions across The Continent, where humans, Elves, gnomes and monsters battle for supremacy.
In Season 2, Geralt, convinced that the sorceress Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) perished during the Battle of Sodden, brings Princess Ciri (Freya Allan) to his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While kings, Elves, humans and demons battle outside the walls, Geralt “must protect Ciri from something far more dangerous–the mysterious power she possesses inside.”
The series–led by showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich–is based on the book of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski. The first episode of Season 2–which drew inspiration from the author’s short story A Grain of Truth–introduced the character of Nivellen, played by Kristofer Hivju.
