‘The Witcher’ Anime Spinoff Trailer Teases August Debut

While fans of the Netflix series The Witcher impatiently wait for Season 2 to kick off in December, they can feast their eyes on a trailer for an animated spinoff of the fantasy/horror show.

The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf–scheduled for an Aug. 23 premiere on Netflix–will explore the origin of Vesemir, the mentor to Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia, as reported by screenrant.com. And the teaser trailer on this page affords a frightening look at the monsters and warriors who will clash in this dark film from animation house Studio Mir.

The film–directed by Kwang Han from a script by Beau DeMayo–stars the voice talents of Theo James as Vesemir, Lara Pulver as Tetra, Graham McTavish as Deglan and Mary McDonnell as Lady Zerbst.

The movie is set in a time before the live-action series and will spotlight Vesemir, described in the official synopsis as “a swashbuckling young witcher who escaped a life of poverty to slay monsters for coin.”

But, in the course of his travels, “a strange new monster begins terrorizing a politically fraught kingdom” and Vesemir finds himself on a “frightening adventure that forces him to confront the demons of his past.”
