Robert Palmer Watkins has joined AMC’s The Walking Dead: World Beyond in a recurring role for the horror spinoff’s second and final season.
Watkins–who guest-starred in World Beyond’s first season as Lt. Frank Newton of the Civic Republic Military (CRM)–will get more air time this upcoming 10-episode season, as reported by Deadline. Season 2 is slated to debut sometime later this year.
Watkins–perhaps best known for his role as Dillon Quartermaine on General Hospital–most recently played the lead role of Jack in Last Three Days.
Watkins’ Lt. Newton made an appearance in the eighth episode of last season–The Sky is a Graveyard. Showrunner Matt Negrete said fans would “be seeing a lot more of the CRM” in the next season. “We’ll get more than a glimpse into how they operate and what their modus operandi is,” he added.
World Beyond, as fans know, follows the first generation raised in a surviving civilization of a post-apocalyptic world. Two sisters–along with two friends–leave their place of safety in Nebraska to undertake an important quest.
As the group is pursued by those who want to harm them–as well as those who want to help–“a time of growing up and transformation unfurls across dangerous terrain, challenging everything they know about the world, themselves and each other.”
The show’s ensemble cast includes Alexa Mansour, Aliyah Royale, Annet Mahendru, Nico Tortorella, Nicolas Cantu, Hal Cumpston, Julia Ormond and Joe Holt.
World Beyond–created by Negrete and Scott M. Gimple–is produced and distributed by AMC Studios. The executive producers include Negrete, Gimple, The Walking Dead co-creator Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert and Brian Bockrath.
