Tales of the Walking Dead will feature a significant link to the past.
The six-episode spinoff anthology series of AMC’s long-running zombie blockbuster The Walking Dead this week added Samantha Morton to its growing cast, according to Variety.
Morton will reprise her role as Alpha from Seasons 9 and 10 of the mothership series. Details of her storyline in the new show are not yet known, but Alpha was the leader of the Whisperers, a group of survivors who wore zombie skin in order to move among the undead–and then attack other humans for resources.
Morton–the first actor from The Walking Dead to continue a role in this spinoff–joins the previously announced Terry Crews, Parker Posey, Jillian Bell, Anthony Edwards, Poppy Liu, Olivia Munn, Danny Ramirez, Loan Chabanol, Embeth Davidtz and Jessie T. Usher in the ensemble.
The new show–slated to debut on AMC sometime this summer–will be the third spawn of the parent series, following Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond.
Channing Powell serves as showrunner of the series, with Scott M. Gimple acting as executive producer. The directors on board include Michael Satrazemis, Haifaa al-Mansour, Deborah Kampmeier and Tara Nicole Weyr.
