This is one zombie series that’s having a hard time getting off the ground.
AMC’s still-untitled Daryl Dixon spinoff of The Walking Dead recently lost one of its co-stars, and now it’s been reported by Deadline that its showrunner is taking a hike.
Melissa McBride–who plays Carol Peletier on the long-running horror series–this past week left the new show before shooting began, reportedly because the series will be filmed in Europe and relocating “became logistically untenable” for the actor at this time, according to a statement from AMC.
And now, the show–which had to switch gears and will reportedly center around Norman Reedus’ fan-favorite Daryl Dixon character–has lost showrunner Angela Kang, a behind-the-scenes fixture in TWD universe. Kang, who reportedly will stay with the new series as executive producer, will focus on other projects for AMC.
David Zabel–with such TV series as ER, Star Trek: Voyager, Dark Angel and Mercy Street on his resumé–will take over as showrunner of the series that’s expected to debut sometime next year.
