Live audiences love Dead City.

The Walking Dead: Dead City has proven to be a very successful spinoff of AMC’s flagship zombie series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The show debuted June 18 with 683,000 viewers on AMC–and simulcasts on BBC America and IFC pushed the first-night total to 1.1 million viewers. Those numbers made Dead City the most-watched drama series debut of the year on cable.

The six-episode first season of Dead City–led by showrunner Eli Jorne–follows the adventures of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) in a post-apocalyptic New York City. The cast also includes Gaius Charles, Logan Kim and Zeljko Ivanek.

During the first season, Maggie and Negan search for Maggie’s kidnapped son, Hershel, in a Manhattan that is “filled with the dead–as well as those who have made the city their own world of anarchy, beauty and terror.”
