What’s one more stranger among friends?

The Lionsgate remake of the 2008 cult horror hit The Strangers this week inked a new cast member, as the film has started shooting in Slovakia, according to a report on Deadline.

The new film–expected to be a springboard to a trilogy–added Ema Horvath (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) to the previously announced cast of Madelaine Petsch, Froy Gutierrez and Gabriel Basso.

Renny Harlin (A Nightmare of Elm Street 4: The Dream Master) will direct the pic from a screenplay by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland.

The remake follows Petsch’s character as she drives cross-country with her longtime boyfriend (Gutierrez) to start a new life in the Pacific Northwest, according to the synopsis. When their car breaks down in Venus, Oregon, “they’re forced to spend the night in a secluded Airbnb, where they’re terrorized from dusk till dawn by three masked strangers,”

The original The Strangers–written and directed by Bryan Bertino–stars Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman as a couple contending with a horrifying home invasion. The sleeper hit spawned a 2018 sequel, The Strangers: Prey at Night.
