Professional football player-turned-actor Brad William Henke–who had roles in several genre films and TV series–has passed away at age 56.
A cause of death was not revealed, but Deadline reports that Henke’s family said he passed away in his sleep last week.
Henke–who played for the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XXIV–began his acting career in 1994, after injuries forced him to leave pro football.
Henke–who had nearly 100 credited acting roles in his career–played John Cooke in M. Night Shyamalan’s Split in 2016, and also portrayed Tom Cullen in the 2020 miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand. He may have been best known for playing cruel prison guard Desi Piscatella in Orange Is the New Black.
Henke is survived by his mother Tammy, sister Annette, wife Sonja, stepson Aaden, stepdaughter Leasa and grandchild Amirah.
