When death is not the final frontier.

The Shrouds–the latest foray into horror by acclaimed filmmaker David Cronenberg–will start production next month, and another cast member signed on this week, according to a report on Deadline.

Sandrine Holt (Daredevil: Born Again) joins Vincent Cassel, Diane Kruger and Guy Pearce in the thriller that will start shooting in Toronto May 8. No release window has been announced.

In the film, Karsh (Cassel), a businessman and grieving widower, builds a device “to connect with the dead within a burial shroud,” according to the synopsis.

The invention–installed at his state-of-the-art cemetery–allows him and his clients” to watch their departed loved ones decompose in real time.”

This bizarre venture is about to break into the mainstream when several graves in the cemetery are vandalized and nearly destroyed–including the one holding Karsh’s wife. This drives him “to re-evaluate his business, marriage and fidelity to his late wife’s memory–as well as push him to new beginnings.”
