This is shaping up to be the Year of the Wolf.
The latest film in a recent surge of interest in the werewolf sub-genre–Year 2–is now in the pre-production and creature-building phase, according to screendaily.com, and a genre standout was recently cast in the lead.
Frank Grillo–who has appeared in The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year, as well as the Captain America and Avengers MCU entries–will play scientist Wesley Marshall in Year 2, a man who is “racing against time one year after a Supermoon has triggered a latent gene in humans that turns them into werewolves when they enter moonlight,” according to the logline.
Now, the Supermoon has returned, and Marshall is out to find a cure. When his sister-in-law and niece are attacked by werewolves in their home, he must decide to “save the world or save his family.”
The horror flick–slated to start shooting in Puerto Rico this May–is directed by Steven C. Miller (the 2012 remake of Silent Night, Deadly Night) and written by Matthew Kennedy (Inheritance).
The film’s werewolves are being created by Oscar nominee Alec Gillis from Amalgamated Dynamics, whose special effects work was featured in Godzilla vs. Kong and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
