Always check under the stairs.
A reboot of the 1991 horror pic The People Under the Stairs is underway, and a major step was taken this week as a screenwriter has been chosen, according to a report on Deadline.
Ezra Claytan Daniels (Doom Patrol, Night Sky) will handle the script for Monkeypaw Productions and Universal Studios. Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld will produce the movie, which is still in early development–without a director or cast members yet announced.
The original The People Under the Stairs–written and directed by horror icon Wes Craven–stars Brandon Adams, Everett McGill, Wendy Robie and A.J. Langer.
The film–which raked in $31 million at the global box office on a $6-million budget–follows a young boy and two adult robbers who become trapped in a house after breaking in to steal a collection of gold coins. Things go south when the boy learns a dark secret about what lurks in the house.
