‘The Nun II’ Conjures Up Scary Good $33M Opening Weekend

by Thomas Tuna

Holy horrors!

Despite subpar reviews, The Nun II–the sequel to the 2018 The Conjuring entry–enjoyed an impressive opening weekend at the domestic box office, according to a report on Deadline.

Topping the domestic charts in its debut weekend, The Nun II earned nearly $33 million from 3,700 theaters–in the face of a “rotten” 45 percent score from Rotten Tomatoes and a C+ CinemaScore.

The Nun II–directed by Michael Chavez from a screenplay by Akela Cooper–stars Taissa Farmiga as Sister Irene and Bonnie Aarons (who will appear at Connecticut HorrorFest Sept. 23-24) as the demonic Valak.

Set in 1956 France–four years after the first film–the sequel finds Sister Irene once again coming face-to-face with Valak at a local boarding school.
