Demonic forces will be released.
The Nun 2–the highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 hit horror entry in The Conjuring universe–now has its lead, although the details of her role are still a bit fuzzy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Storm Reid (The Invisible Man) has been cast opposite Bonnie Aarons–reprising her role as the demon nun Valak–and possibly Taissa Farmiga (no confirmation at this time) returning as Sister Irene.
The sequel–expected to start filming in France in the near future–is directed by Michael Chavez (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (Malignant). The film–produced by James Wan and Peter Safran–will hit theaters in about a year–Sept. 8, 2023.
The only brief synopsis provided so far is that the sequel–set in France in 1956–sees “an evil spreading.” The film “follows Sister Irene as she once again comes face-to-face with the demonic force of Valak, the demon nun.”
The original The Nun–directed by Corin Hardy from a screenplay by Gary Dauberman–follows “a priest with a haunted past and a novice on the threshold of her final vows” who are sent by the Vatican to investigate the death of a young nun in Romania “and confront a malevolent force in the form of a demonic nun.”
The Warner Bros. original was not treated kindly by critics, but still raked in an impressive $365.5 million worldwide on a budget of $22 million.
