In an obvious attempt or keep things simple–and why not in this crazy COVID-19 world we live in?–Scream creator/writer Kevin Williamson today finally revealed the official title of the new movie in the long-running franchise.
Ready for this? It’s called Scream. Not Scream 5 or Scream 4 1/2 or even Scream: We Couldn’t Come Up With A Clever Subtitle. Nope. it’s just Scream.
As reported here in Horror News Network just a few hours ago, the new Scream officially has wrapped production and is aiming for its projected Jan. 14, 2022 release date. And that was part of a tweet from Williamson–who serves as executive producer of the new film–just a little while ago.
“That’s a wrap on Scream,” he wrote, “which I’m excited to announce is the official title of the next film! Nearly 25 years ago, when I wrote Scream and Wes Craven brought it to life, I could not have imagined the lasting impact it would have on you–the fans.”

Williamson also said earlier this year that the thing he loves about this upcoming movie is that it takes “a fresh approach. It’s this beautiful sort of fresh, new movie–but it also has this nostalgic factor that runs through it.”
So, what’s old is new again–and Scream it is.
