‘The Legacy Of Chucky’ Looks Back On The Horror Franchise

by Thomas Tuna

One thing horror fans can count on–Chucky always wants to play.

The Syfy and USA series Chucky recently wrapped its first season, but the effects and the attraction of the Child’s Play spinoff linger. And this week, a special featurette–The Legacy of Chucky–was unveiled that offers a satisfying overview of the Don Mancini-led franchise. Check out the video, courtesy of JoBlo.com, on this page.

Mancini–who wrote virtually the entire Child’s Play franchise and created the Chucky series–gives his unique perspective on the killer doll’s imprint on the horror landscape. And several cast members–including Brad and Fiona Dourif, Jennifer Tilly and Devon Sawa–add their commentary.

Chucky–which has been renewed for a second season–is led by executive producers Mancini and Nick Antosca. The show, which follows the events of 2017’s Cult of Chucky, starts when a vintage Chucky doll shows up at a suburban yard sale and “a series of horrifying murders begun to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets.”

The cast also includes Alex Vincent, Christine Elise McCarthy, Zackary Arrhur, Teo Briones, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Bjorgvin Arnarson and Lex Doig.

The original 1988 Child’s Play–directed by Tom Holland from a screenplay he wrote with Mancini and John Lafia–spawned six sequels, a 2019 reboot, comic books, a video game and a boatload of collectibles. The films–which earned more than $182 million at the box office–took home a Saturn Award for Best Horror Franchise.
