Like Dracula emerging from of the shadows, Universal Studios has announced via Deadline the release dates for three upcoming features which included the horror film, The Last Voyage of the Demeter.

Now set for release on January 27, 2023, Demeter is adapted from a single chapter of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, titled The Captain’s Log. Director André Øvredal (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark) is at the helm.

The horrifying tale takes place aboard the merchant ship Demeter, which gets her name from the Greek goddess of grain and the fertility of the earth but also the cycle of life and death.

The ship is on a voyage from Carpathia to England with a skeleton staff which consisted of the captain, two officers and five crewmen.

What they do not know is the private cargo the ship is carrying are 24 unmarked wooden crates, including Dracula’s coffin and dirt from his home castle grounds.

As the nights come to pass along the trip, the crew is stalked be an eerie presence lurking around every corner.

Upon its arrival off the shores of London, not a living soul is found aboard the Demeter and the ship is discovered to be a burned, dilapidated vessel.

Cast members of the film include Corey Hawkins starring as Clemens, a doctor who joins the ship’s crew, Aisling Franciosi a stowaway, Liam Cunningham as the captain of the Demeter, David Dastmalchian as the ship’s first mate and Javier Botet as the villain Count Dracula.

As the only wide release set for that January 2023 weekend, Demeter is expected to offer thrills and shed a whole new light on a mysterious venture of Dracula’s legacy.
