Quite a birthday celebration.

The Last of Us Part II–the Naughty Dog survival horror video game for PlayStation 4–recently marked its second anniversary, and celebrated by announcing a sales milestone–10 million copies sold. Check out the official announcement in a Twitter post–courtesy of comicbook.com–on this page.

The game is on pace to outperform the original The Last of Us, which took five years to sell 17 million copies across PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 5.

The Last of Us Part II–released in June 2020–is set five years after the original game and focuses on two playable characters in a post-apocalyptic America: Ellie, who sets out for revenge after suffering a tragedy; and Abby, a soldier who becomes involved in a conflict between her militia and a religious cult.

The game–played from a third-person perspective–lets players fight human enemies and zombie-like creatures with firearms, improvised weapons and stealth.

The Last of Us Part II–praised for its gameplay, audio design, score and characters–is one of the best-selling PlayStation 4 games and holds the record for most Game of the Year awards.

In related news, The Last of Us is getting a remake on PlayStation 5 this September, a move that will likely be met favorably by gamers–especially with the upcoming live-action HBO series drumming up even more interest.
