‘The Horror of Dolores Roach’ Podcast In Development At Amazon

by Thomas Tuna

The Gimlet Pictures’ podcast The Horror of Dolores Roach is on its way to Amazon through a partnership with Blumhouse Television.

Blumhouse last year snapped up the rights to adapt for TV the popular podcast, which has frightened listeners over 13 episodes for the last two seasons, as reported by Deadline.

Blumhouse, as explained, has set up a virtual writers’ room in order to help it produce the story for Amazon during the pandemic.

The podcast depicts a “fictional, macabre urban legend of love, betrayal, gentrification, cannibalism and survival of the fittest,” according to developers.

Delving further into the horrific storyline, the plot centers around Dolores Roach who, after spending 16 years in prison, returns to her old Manhattan neighborhood only to find it has changed dramatically. It seems that her boyfriend and family have up and left, and the only person who recognizes her is an old friend, a stoner named Luis.

So, Luis tries to help her out by giving her a room to stay and letting her give massages for money in a basement apartment.

But things go from bad to worse for “Magic Hands Dolores”, as she is driven to extremes to make ends meet. Including leaving a string of strangled customers behind in her destructive wake.

The podcast stars Daphne Rubin-Vega and Bobby Cannavale.

Blumhouse–which has been very active bringing podcasts to life in film and TV projects–has also worked on the Paranormal Activity horror films and Hulu’s Into The Dark horror anthology series.

Amazon also has been involved with other podcasts, including the well-received mystery Homecoming–which starts its second season May 22–and The Left Right Game.

Dana Resnick (Home Before Dark) will act as the new program’s showrunner in a team-up with podcast creator Aaron Mark, who worked out a first-look arrangement with Blumhouse.

The show’s laundry list of executive producers include Jason Blum, Marci Wiseman, Jeremy Gold, Chris Giliberti and Justin McGoldrick.

The cast and release date for the new show have not been announced yet, so keep reading Horror News Network for any and all updates.
