They’re lining up for a shot at the Devil.
Actors are signing up fast and furious for the first of three planned sequels to 1973’s The Exorcist, with Okwui Okpokwasili (Agatha: Coven of Chaos) being the latest cast addition, according to a report on Deadline.
The roster already includes Leslie Odom Jr., the returning Ellen Burstyn, Ann Dowd, Olivia Marcum, Lidya Jewett, Raphael Sbarge and Jennifer Nettles.
Little is known at this stage about the Blumhouse Productions/Universal Pictures/Peacock entry, but the brief logline reveals that “the father (Odom) of a possessed child tracks down Chris MacNeil (Burstyn).” The horror pic will hit theaters Oct. 13.
David Gordon Green (the recent Halloween trilogy) directs the first sequel from a screenplay he wrote with Scott Teems, Danny McBride and Peter Sattler. Producers include Jason Blum, David Robinson and James Robinson.
The original The Exorcist–directed by William Friedkin from a screenplay by William Peter Blatty–follows a desperate mother’s quest to save her 12-year-old daughter from demonic possession–through a horrible exorcism.
The film–which earned Best Picture and Best Actress Oscar nominations–was a box office triumph, earning more than $440 million worldwide.
