Like a wish come true, Deadline has announced the North American screen rights to The Djinn have been awarded to IFC Midnight. The studio is aiming for a summer release.
From directors David Charbonier and Justin Powell (The Boy Behind the Door), The Djinn is the story of a young boy who cannot speak and wishes more than anything to have a voice. It is with this strong desire he awakens a devious entity that can give this to him but take more than he could even imagine. The boy must survive until the clock strikes midnight or he’ll face the ultimate doom.
Cast members include Ezra Dewey (Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders), Rob Brownstein (Breaking Bad), and Tevy Poe (Borrowed Vengeance).
The Djinn will release on May 14 this year in select theaters and on demand.
Horror News Network will give more updates as they’re announced.
