This was hardly a “supernatural” run.
The CW this week sent The Winchesters packing after just one season, proving that being a spinoff of the long-running Supernatural series certainly doesn’t guarantee success.
The show, according to a report on Deadline, was among the long-shot renewal prospects at the network under its new ownership “as it focuses on unscripted and lower-cost scripted programming in pursuit of profitability.”
Fans of the short-lived show can take some solace, though, in the knowledge that Warner Bros. Television reportedly is looking for a new place for The Winchesters to land. So, stay tuned.
The Supernatural prequel–written by executive producer Robbie Thompson–relates the backstory of John and Mary, the parents of Sam and Dean Winchester, with Dean (Jensen Ackles) narrating the show.
In the show, when John Winchester (Drake Rodger) returns from Vietnam, “a mysterious encounter sparks a new mission to trace his father’s past. He crosses paths with 19-year-old demon hunter Mary Campbell (Meg Donnelly), who is searching for answers after the disappearance of her father.”
