These witches won’t be back.
Netflix has pulled the plug on The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself–an eight-episode series based on Sally Green’s YA trilogy Half Bad–after its only season that kicked off Oct. 28.
Check out the tweet from series creator and showrunner Joe Barton on this page that breaks the bad news. “Sadly, Netflix has cancelled this,” Barton tweeted. “Very proud of it, and really liked the people I got to make it with. Sorry not to be able to finish the story.”

The short-lived series follows Nathan Byrn (Jay Lycurgo), the titular bastard son of Marcus Edge (David Gyasi), a bloodthirsty witch. In the show, witches Annalisa (Nadia Parkes) and Gabriel (Emilien Vekemans) try to manage Byrn’s emerging powers–as well as deal with the prophecy that says he is destined to destroy his evil father.
Byrn–fearing what he may become as his powers grow–struggles against the urge to become like his father. As he learns more about the world of witches, gore and fantasy–and fights against those pursuing him–Byrn must decide what kind of witch he will become.
