Everyone knows Gomez, Morticia and the rest of the Addams Family are “altogether ooky” (whatever that means), but now we also know what they’ll be up to in the sequel to their 2019 hit animated movie.
The Addams Family 2, according to comicbook.com, has been rescheduled to an Oct. 1 theatrical debut (from Oct. 8), and MGM Pictures this week dropped several vacation-themed posters that hint at the film’s storyline. Check out those creepy posters on this page.
The sequel will be “back on the big scream” when Gomez and Tish are “distraught that their children are growing up, skipping family dinners and totally consumed with ‘scream time’,” according to the official synopsis.
To reclaim their bond, the couple decides to take everyone in their “haunted camper and hit the road for one last miserable family vacation. Their adventure across America takes them out of their element and into hilarious run-ins with Cousin Itt and other kooky characters.”
The animated sequel–directed by Greg Tiernan, Laura Brousseau, Conrad Vernon and Kevin Pavlovic from a screenplay by Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit–is based, of course, on the timeless New Yorker cartoons by Charles Addams.
The actors providing the voices for the film include Charlize Theron (Morticia), Oscar Isaac (Gomez), Chloe Grace Moretz (Wednesday), Nick Kroll (Uncle Fester), Bette Midler (Grandmama), Javon Walton (Pugsley) and Snoop Dogg (Cousin Itt).
The original animated The Addams Family–which got high marks for its performances and animation, but mixed reviews for its screenplay–was a box office smash, earning $204 million on a $24-million budget.
