by Thomas Tuna

What if the moon came to us?

Moonfall–a new horror-s/f feature from filmmaker Roland Emmerich (Independence DayThe Day After Tomorrow)–will land in theaters Feb. 4, 2022, as reported by Deadline, and a chilling trailer can be viewed on this very page.

The Lionsgate offering–which boasts an all-star cast of Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson, Michael Pena, John Bradley, Charlie Plummer and Donald Sutherland–was written by director Emmerich, Spenser Cohen and Harald Kloser. Emmerich and Kloser also serve as producers of the film.

The storyline, according to the official synopsis, picks up when a mysterious force knocks our moon from its orbit and sends it hurtling on a collision course with Earth. Just weeks before impact, “NASA executive and former astronaut Jo Fowler (Berry) is convinced she has the key to saving us all–but only one astronaut, Brian Harper (Wilson), and conspiracy theorist K.C. Houseman (Bradley) believe her.”

These unlikely heroes “mount an impossible last-ditch mission into space, only to find out that our moon is not what we think it is.”
